The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA), is appealing to all law abiding citizens to reflect and show respect for all humanity including our children and to determine the kind of legacy we wish to leave post- Independence 2025 .

The call is being made in light of the gruesome murder and attempt to discard the remains of the nine-year-old girl inside a barrel at Job Lane in Spanish Town on Friday, May 9.

The JTA is once again signaling its disgust with this reprehensible act and again commend the law enforcers for moving quickly to apprehend the alleged perpetrator. The association gives its commitment to assist in whatever way possible as our legislators and members of the security forces continue their work to stem the tide of crime in the country.

“Our children are our future and if we destroy the very fabric of that future, where then, will our country stand?”

Despite reports that the alleged child killer met the same fate, the reason for the ongoing attack on our children is still not known.

Education’s asset is our children while children are our teachers priority and that is why as a Union we stand up in times like these.

Blood letting must not be normalized and at a time when Jamaica is observing Child Month, under the theme: "Act Now! Stand Against Child Abuse and Exploitation all well thinking Jamaican must be on board.

The JTA stands resolute in this regard.
