The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) joins other organizations and individuals locally and internationally in paying tribute to the life and work of Neville ‘Teddy’ McCook.  His contribution to sports, in particular athletics, in Jamaica, the Caribbean and indeed the world is well recognized.

The JTA remembers Mr. McCook for his support for track and field among children in primary and all age schools across the island.  He was the first Meet Director for JTA’s Primary, All Age Schools Athletic Championships when it was re-introduced in 1988 and served in that capacity for a number of years.  It is through his efforts and interest that the championships have become one of the major events on the Annual Athletics Calendar in Jamaica.  Many of our outstanding athletes who have performed on the international stage came out of the championships that Mr. McCook directed.

We are all saddened by the loss of Teddy McCook but will always remember him for his outstanding contribution to the development of Athletics in Jamaica, the Caribbean and the world.  He was indeed an icon in the field of athletics.

The entire JTA family and in particular, the National Sports Committee, extend condolences to his family and assure them that they are in our prayers.
