The Central Executive of the JTA met today, May 21, 2013 and considered the presentation of the Minister of Education in the Sectoral debate on May 15, 2013. The members expressed alarm at the inaccuracies that were contained in the statements concerning certain conditions of service of teachers in the public education system.
The meeting has directed that the Officers suspend further monthly meetings with the Minister until the Association has completed a series of consultations with its members within the Parish Associations.
The Executive has also instructed the Secretariat to officially inform the Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and Planning that proposals contained in the Minister’s presentation, if implemented, would breach the Heads of Agreement signed between the Government and the JTA on March 12, 2013 for the period ending March 2015.
