The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) has written to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education requesting the list of teachers who have been granted study and vacation leave for the 2014 – 2015 academic year.
The request has been prompted by information received by the Association that the number of teachers who have been granted leave has been significantly reduced from those benefitting from leave in 2013 – 2014.
The JTA does not accept that the Ministry of Education has the right to deny teachers who qualify the benefits provided for in the current regulations. The Association is very concerned about the current course of action by the Ministry to deny teachers the benefits that have been won through negotiation without the required discussion whenever the removal or reduction of negotiated benefits are contemplated.
