Tertiary Grant for Children of Public Sector Teachers

Public Sector Teachers are being advised that consequent on the Heads of Agreement signed between the Government of Jamaica and the Jamaica Teachers’ Association for the 2015 – 2017 contract period, applications are invited for the Tertiary Grant.

The Grant is being provided to assist with the payment of tuition fees for children of public sector teachers.  The grant for the contract period 2015 – 2017 will be One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) per approved applicant in both years.

The following guidelines should be noted:

1.       The grant is applicable to public sector teachers who are represented by the Jamaica Teachers’ Association that are signatory to the 2015 – 2017 Heads of Agreement and have been working consistently in the profession  for two (2) years.

The allocation for 2015 – 2016 is Ten Million Dollars ($10,000,000.00) and for 2016 – 2017, the allocation will be Fifteen Million Dollars ($15,000,000.00).

2.       The grant is applicable to children of public sector workers who:

           a.  Have been accepted to pursue or are pursuing local, full-time registered programme at the under-graduate level at a tertiary institution registered by the Jamaica Tertiary Commission (J-TEC) and approved by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ).                      

3.       The submission of the following documents is mandatory

          a.    Applicant’s Employment Letter

          b.    Acceptance letter of new students

          c.    Transcript/Progress Report for continuing students

          d.    Copy of child’s Birth Certificate reflecting the name of the parent making the application.

4.       All applications:

          a.     Must be submitted using the attached form which is also accessible at the Head Office and Regional Offices of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) and the Ministry of Education.

5.       Deadline for the submission of completed application forms and all relevant supporting documents is Friday, February 12, 2016.
