Salary Negotiations
The Negotiating Team of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) met with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service to resume negotiations today, November 8, 2017. The Negotiating Team, led by JTA President Georgia Waugh Richards, is reporting grave disappointment and disgust because, in essence, there is no new offer on the table.
The Association is concerned about the seriousness of the government in concluding salary negotiations against the background that the teachers unanimously rejected the offer which included a 6% increase over two (2) years on Basic Salary at its Annual Conference in August.
The Association will be intensifying its efforts to secure a better offer from the government (for our teachers). We will be having a series of parish meetings during November, beginning this Friday, November 10, 2017 in St. Thomas, St. Mary and Trelawny. These meetings will be followed by a meeting of General Council on Saturday, November 25, 2017.
The Council will determine the next course of action.
