MANCHESTER PRINCIPAL IS THE NEW JTA PRESIDENT-ELECT

Jasford Gabriel, Principal of Manchester High School, Mandeville, Manchester has been elected the new Jamaica Teachers Association President-Elect for 2019-20.

Mr Gabriel beat Winston Smith and Lasonja Harrison in the elections held between June 17 and June 21 among JTA members across the island.

In a statement Wednesday morning, the JTA said 12,044 votes were cast with Gabriel getting 6,500 or more than half. Smith received 3,209 and Harrison 1,582.

The winner will be officially proclaimed at the official opening of the JTA’s Annual Conference scheduled for the Hilton Rose Hall Resort and Spa, Montego Bay, Monday, August 19, 2019. At that time, he will take over as President-Elect from Owen Speid who will then become President.

Gabriel’s victory means that Manchester has returned the President in three of the last four years –with Georgia Waugh Richards, followed by Dr. Garth Anderson as presidents broken by Owen Speid of Kingston and now again another president is coming from Manchester.

The winner will be officially proclaimed at the official opening of the JTA’s Annual Conference scheduled for the Hilton Rose Hall Resort and Spa, Montego Bay, Monday, August 19, 2019.
