La Sonja Harrison Wins JTA Presidential Election

St Faith's Primary School principal La Sonja Harrison has won the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA's) presidential election.

She is to be proclaimed president-elect at the JTA's annual conference next month but will take the reins as the association's boss for the year 2022 to 2023.

Harrison was the early front-runner in a field of five candidates in what was a high-stakes election.

For the second year running, the JTA held online and in-person voting.

Voting was held from June 20 to 25 across the island.

Here's the final tally:

1. La Sonja Harrison - 3,724 votes

2. Leighton Johnson - 1,343 votes

3. Eaton McNamee - 1,319 votes

4. Timroy Shaw - 721 votes

5. Anthony Kennedy - 474 votes
