JTA Increases Scholarships and Bursaries Awards
The Jamaica Teachers’ Association continues to invest in its members’ professional growth and development by providing scholarships and bursaries annually both at the undergraduate and post graduate levels.
This year sixteen members will benefit to the tune of just over 6 million dollars.
The Presidential scholarships were increased from six to eight beneficiaries as a result of a Partnership Agreement between the Association and JN Bank.
It should be noted that the Presidential Scholarships are valued at Five Hundred Thousand dollars ($500,000.00) each while the undergraduate Scholarship which is named in memory of the Association’s first President A. Wesley Powell is valued at Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000.00).
This increase has found favour with current President Owen Speid who has expressed his satisfaction in the Association’s willingness to assist members to improve their professional stock.
He remarked, “The Jamaica Teachers’ Association is extremely proud that it can celebrate the legacy of our founding fathers in such a tangible way. It is anticipated that the beneficiaries of the scholarships will make the best use of these awards and by extension play their part in building through education - Jamaica Land We Love”
