JTA Concerned about long delay in starting Negotiations

Publication Date:

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association is very concerned that to date Government has not invited the Association to commence negotiations for Improved Salary and Conditions of Service for the island’s teachers.

This concern is further aggravated by the fact that the long delay is unprecedented in recent times and more so coming against the reality that teachers are feeling the economic squeeze.

We are actively preparing for our Annual Conference in August and would normally have an offer on the table to put to the Conference.

The JTA is therefore warning that if negotiations do not commence now and meaningful progress made, this could have serious implications for the new school year commencing in September 2017.
