JTA SETS STAGE TO EMPOWER ITS WOMEN

Over 200 female teachers from schools islandwide will, on Tuesday, November 21, converge on the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston for the JTA’s Women Conference, under the theme : “Women: Inspired and Empowered to Overcome and Lead”.

The event which is the brainchild of JTA President Georgia Waugh Richards is being organized in response to comments from teachers.

The objectives of the conference include:

·      Empowering women to rise to leadership generally and in particular in the JTA;

·      To motivate the female teachers to create a mentorship programme;

·      To start a Professional Learning Community among female teachers to harness their skills and knowledge  and cascade that throughout the profession”.

The conference will feature a Keynote Speaker and  panel discussions covering the topics:

·      Work Life balance

·      Handling Stress

·      Intimate Relationships

·      Violence and Sexual Harassment in the work place 

·      Empowering women for leadership in the JTA

·      Inequalities that Impact women in Leadership

The conference will also feature a ‘One on One' interaction with JTA President, Georgia Waugh Richards and a ‘Power Lunch’ featuring conversations with some of the island’s most influential  women.
